Berthold Hackl
Senior Advisor
Berthold Hackl is Senior Advisor, Back Bay Life Science Advisors. He has extensive experience and recognition as an executive, advisor, and board member in the life sciences, including biopharma, diagnostics, medtech, and VC investments. He is the founder and principal of Sorrento Investment GmbH, a life sciences investment and advisory in the Frankfurt metropolitan region, Germany. He works extensively in Germany, France and Switzerland, with meaningful reach as well into other European countries.
Mr. Hackl has been an active and visionary participant in the German life science community for many years. His reputation in Germany, together with his long-standing collaboration with Back Bay, enhances the firm’s presence in Germany and Western Europe.
As CEO of invendo medical, a pioneer in the development of single-use gastrointestinal endoscopy products, he shepherded the company from early development to FDA clearance until the generation of first revenues. Invendo was acquired by AMBU in 2017 in a €225m transaction (CPH:AMBU-B).
As General Manager Europe for Eurofins he grew the company’s platform in biopharma and medtech both by successful M&A and organic growth initiatives. Before Mr. Hackl was engaged in VC investments and strategic players Synthes (now J&J) and Biacore (now Danaher), among others, and last he advised the life science activities of boutique M&A firm Taurus Advisory.
